How to Eat Well on a Budget
It doesn't have to cost the earth to eat healthy. It's all about smart planning, fresh selection & minimizing food waste. As a family of 5 (plus the dog!) groceries could easily be a huge expense but here's my tips for staying on budget.
Eat food that is in season ensuring you get fresh produce at a lower price.
Plan meals for the whole week & write a list of all the ingredients you need. This will avoid having to drop into the shops & the temptation of impulse buys.
I usually recommend for good health to have a few nights a week of vegetarian meals. Meat is usually the most expensive food group in the shopping trolley so this can cut costs dramatically.
Use up what you have in the cupboard & fridge before doing a food shop.
Don't buy junk food or processed foods. They usually provide little nutritional value & don't fill you up.
Minimize food wastage by having some meals for being "creative". Use left over vegetables in a soup or omelette. Cook extra & freeze small portions.
Yours in good health,
